A Sydenham double rapist who threatened his victim with a knife has been slammed by his own son as a serial attacker and "the worst person in the world".

Evil Jimmy Prospere, 47, was found guilty of two rapes following a trial at Woolwich Crown Court last week and subsequently sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Shocked jurors had heard how the Bishopsthorpe Road resident used violence and intimidation against the woman, who he knew.

On two occasions last year Prospere raped her, using a knife to threaten her during the first attack.

The victim, aged in her 40s, eventually managed to gather the courage to report the abuse to police and Prospere was arrested.

After the sentencing, Antoine Scott, 29, one of Prospere's five children, launched a scathing attack against his father - who has been convicted of several previous assaults against women.

The Tooting man explained: "I don't know if he's raped any other women but I do know he's done terrible, terrible things to all of them."

Mr Scott said his dad had attacked other women with a blade, attacked one victim from morning until evening in a "Mike Tyson versus Holyfield kind of beating" and even performed a St Lucian witchcraft ritual on another woman.

He said: "He's got no one really that's willing to come and say anything positive about him. A long time ago back in the day he had friends but he's just got worse and worse. No one trusts him anymore."

The son added: "He's basically just the worst person in the world I've come across."

After the case, Detective Constable Claire Rutherford from the Met's Sapphire Unit said: "The victim has shown immense courage and resilience throughout the investigation and the court process, and I hope that this conviction helps her find closure in due course.

"I also hope that this conviction acts as a means of encouragement for those women who suffer from sexual abuse to feel reassured that the police take these matters very seriously and will pursue such allegations thoroughly."
