An unexploded Second World War bomb was found at a cement works in Erith.

Police were called at 11am yesterday by a workman who had uncovered an unexploded shell at the Lafarge cement plant in Church Manorway.

Officers attended and cordons were put in place in and around the site.

Between 200 and 300 employees at the nearby Tesco.com distribution centre were evacuated.

Specialist officers confirmed the device was an unexploded Second World War artillery fuse and it was removed.

The cordons were lifted at around 1.30pm.
