BEXLEYHEATH Academy has this afternoon announced it will close for the day as a result of next week's strike action.
Thousands of schools across the country are expected to shut to allow staff to join a protest over pensions, pay and working conditions.
The walk out is being led by the National Union of Teachers (NUT) and the National Association of Schoolmasters’ Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT) on October 17.
Bexleyheath Academy has today sent out letters to parents outlining the reasons for the one-day closure.
Principal Carl Wakefield said in a statement: "I sincerely apologise for any disruption or consternation this may cause you as a family due to having to find alternative arrangements primarily relating to childcare.
"However, the decision was based on an assessment of our ability to ensure the safety and wellbeing of every child in our care.
"Again, with so many staff opting to support the strike action, this could not be guaranteed and therefore the decision to close was made.
"Many thanks in advance of your support and cooperation in this matter and once again, I do apologise for any disruption this may cause you or your family next Thursday."
